3.0 Overview

The directory manager is a visual set of tools that has been designed to be user friendly and simple to use. It should almost be self-explanatory.

With the directory manager, you can do the following:
(Directories can also be referred to as categories)

  • Create Directories.

  • Delete entire directories with subdirectories and contents.

  • Rename directories.

  • Supply a description for each directory. This description will be used for meta tags if you run a HTML generated directory.

  • You can add 1 link at a time or anything from 1-10 at a time in a category.

  • You can also import data into categories.

  • You can edit the entire contents of any link by searching for it or by going to the category it resides in.

  • You can edit more than 1 link at a time in a category.

  • You can delete any link or batches of links in a category.

  • You can move any link or batches of links in a category.

  • You can crawl URLs for titles, descriptions and keywords in a category.

  • You can define your own html template for each category. See '4. How templates & their variables works' for more info.

  • Defining your html templates for specific categories.

  • and more...

3.1 How to add a directory.

You can add a directory by clicking the 'Add New Directory Button' in the 'Directory Manager' - This button will be present in every directory you browse in the directory manager so that you can add sub directories where-ever your are.

3.2 Deleting a directory.

You may delete an entire directory by clicking on the 'delete' link that is displayed next to a directory.

Caution: All links, subdirectories and the entire contents of the directory you choose to delete will be deleted.

3.3 Renaming a directory and editing it's description

You may rename a directory or edit it's description by clicking on the 'edit' link that is displayed next to the directory.

3.4 Adding a link to a directory.

Lets say you have created some directories and sub directories. Go to the directory where you want to add a link and click the 'Add Listing' button.

3.5 Adding more than 1 link to a directory.

You may add more than 1 link to a directory by going to the directory where you want to add links. Once in this directory click the 'Add Multiple Listings' button.

A list of blank boxes with fields will be displayed to you.

Complete the blank fields with the links you want to add. Complete the number of boxes according to the number of links you want to add. You don't have to complete all 10 boxes. Only complete the boxes for which you have links. Turbo Seek will recognize that a box has no information and this will have the effect of it not adding a link.

3.6 Importing Data/links

You may import link data into specific categories. To do this go to the directory where you want to import data. Click the 'Import listings' button.

3.7 Editing, Moving, Deleting Links

You can edit any link by searching for it, or by going to the category where it resides in.

3.7.1 Editing, Moving, Deleting Links in categories
All listings are accompanied by a check box. Check the boxes of the links you want to edit/move/delete. At the bottom of the link listings there will be a drop down box. Select edit/move/delete from it according to what you want to do.

3.7.2 Searching for a link for Editing, Moving, Deleting Links
At the top of the 'Directory Manager' you will always see a search box. Type in the keywords of the link to find the link. Once you have found the link, click the accompanied edit/move/delete links.

3.8 Crawling for titles, descriptions and keywords

The Crawler will fetch titles, descriptions and keywords from URLs that you feed it. To crawl for new links, click on the 'Crawl' button in a category. Crawled items will be added to this directory. A popup window will appear. Feed it a bunch of links and click on the 'Start Crawling' button.

In order to crawl a URL successfully that URL has to have meta tags which is in the standard meta tag format. There are also many other factors that might play a role in the crawler not successfully crawling a URL. Examples of such situations: File not found, poor connections, permission denied, etc...

3.9 Using custom HTML templates for different categories

See '4. How templates & their variables works' for more info.'

3.10 Previewing categories

To get a preview of how links will look like when the end user looks at the specific category, click on the 'Preview' link. Also see '4. How templates & their variables works' for more info.'

3.11 New Submissions

Users have to go to a directory and then click the add URL link to add links in that specific directory/category.

All new links will appear in the 'New Submissions' directory in the 'Directory Manager'. Links are not added directly to a directory/category. You have to grant permission before the new links are added to the categories chosen by end users who submitted new links.

To add new submitted links to the directory, go the 'New Submissions' directory when you are in the 'Root' location of the 'Directory Manager'.

When in the 'New submissions' directory, you may choose to add/edit/move any new submitted links.

You may also choose to add links and have Turbo Seek inform the end users who submitted the links that their link was added to the directory by email. You may customize this email message by clicking on 'Settings & Options'. Once in the 'Settings & Options' section, click on 'New User Submission Email'

You may also choose to delete links and have Turbo Seek email a link rejection email to the user who submitted the link. You may customize this email message by clicking on 'Settings & Options'. Once in the 'Settings & Options' section, click on 'Rejected User Submission Email'

3.12 New Reviews

New user reviews for links added is not visible until you grant permission for it to be displayed.

To see if there has been any new reviews added or granted, do the following:
Go to the 'Directory Manager'. On the first page (Root) you will see a link 'New Reviews'. Click on it. The next screen will list new reviews. You may choose to authorize or delete the new reviews added by users.
