When we install PowerSeek for you we remove the setup script as leaving the setup script creates a security hole. The reason for this is that the setup script can be accessed without providing a user name and password and it can be used to retrieve the PowerSeek configuration and control panel user name and password. The setup script is only meant to configure PowerSeek. After that it needs to be deleted or removed when the PowerSeek setup and configuration is complete. In the past we used to leave setup.cgi for the Search Engine & Directory owner (after installing PowerSeek) to change the user name and password but many people forget to delete setup.cgi which leaves the installation vulnerable with a security hole.
To change the user name and password of the Control Panel run setup.cgi – setup.cgi can be found inside the PowerSeek .zip installation archive under the ‘/cgi/admin’ directory.
Extract setup.cgi from the install archive and transfer it to the directory holding the PowerSeek ‘admin’ script files. admin.cgi, admin2.cgi, etc. will be situated in this directory. After setup.cgi has been transferred assign the permission setting of 755 to setup.cgi
After setting the permission setting of setup.cgi to 755 load it inside your web browser and go through the steps untill you can change the user name and password.
