I have added an Add URL link to my Index page or Front Page. When the Add URL link is clicked the Add URL form comes up with a drop down menu with categories. At the moment the first category is not selected. I would like the first category to be selected in the drop down box on the Add URL form.

The link you are using has criteria that instructs the Add URL form to select a different category. To solve the problem change the Add URL link you are using so that it has no criteria that it is passing on. Your existing Add URL link will look something like this:
