Hi

I have built and am currently testing a website directory. In time, I shall have a paid submission system but for the moment, I am building up the listing content and notifying the website that they have been added for Free but warning that as from January 2003, if they are a Commercial or Governmental or Professional site or if they make money from their site, they will be billed!

Question is, being very new to this... I would welcome any pointers and / or help as to how to generate Invoices to the link listings I am adding, come January??

Can anyone point me in the right direction??

Many thanks.

Hi,

I can see what yout rying to achieve but I can see problems with the idea.

I cannot see the point in adding a URL to you if I'm going to be billed as you suggest after all, many, if not all search engines, allow free url submission and then give choices to the user to improve ranking and other additional services therafter for a fee.

I would guess that you would not get many submissions based on your approach.

Why not allow for free submissions and 'then' offer other services to tempt the user to pay i.e. allow for banner or whatever ads to be added with URL, submissions to other search engine facilitites etc for a small fee.

That way you would populate your search engine quickly AND have the opportunity to make revenue fron THOSE submitted URLS?

If you go with your idea I guess you would have very little URL submissions, if any at all!

This is what we have done and works very well.....

Hope my thoughts help you but they are only an opinion as the final decision of course, rests with you.........

Hi Rik

Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply!

The Internet and particularly the Webmaster Web production and development market in this little corner of the world is still relatively underdeveloped although it has picked up rapidly over the last year or so. The idea behind My Directory is to benefit from that upsurge, endeavouring to increase net traffic to this region's websites, resources, services, products, information and individuals' homepages, by good working of the search engines and other strategic directories. In doing so... and early days but I have been quite successful with other sites in generating good traffic, I hope to be rewarded!! Now, whether a paid listing will work, I am not all that convinced myself.. but other Directories seem to make it work.. so I thought I would try it. You can always make submissions free at a ltater date. Much more difficult to make a free submissions Directory a paid one.

Nevertheless, I appreciate your comment and ... as they say.. take it under advisement! Would be interested to see your site and how you've made it work?

Having said all that... ... none of this answers my original question!! Want to have another go?? Anyone?? Surely there must be hundreds out there with the answer I am looking for???

Ever hopefull!.

Un Saludo... from Gibraltar!

Hi,

Let me get this right in order to understand.............

When someone adds thier URL you want to be able to send them an invoice upon submission IF they are a business etc?

Okay, so when they submit their URL they will fill in a form name, address etc which will go onto an invoice type system.

No problem so far.......

You can do this using a billing script alongside TS. However, what I would do is verify that they ARE a business (checking new urls) if so, fire off an email to them which will contain the invoice url where they can view their account/bill online, and have the ability to print this off in printer format AND give them a 'unique' account number which they use to access their accout on your system.....phew!

This can be done......no problem

Hope this helps

Thanks Rik!

Actually... I haven't explained myself very well... We are nearly there... but not quite.

I have built a load of content in the form of URL Listings. I have notified all entities that they have been listed. I have also explained... that at the moment ALL listings are FREE.. whilst athe site is being beta tested!

However.. I have also explained... Come January 2003... ALL Listings which are Commercial, Governmental or Professional... or if they EARN money .. make a financial gain from their site.... I shall be charging!

Sooo... as from January 2003 I shall have a Paid Submission system... ie... You submit your site... and pay for it Online at that time.

But... I then have... around 500 listings ... as it stands at the mo.. which are chargeable listings. I want to send these guys an Invoice. How to extract info from TS.. and link to individual Email (TS email listing info).... including Invoice with Description .(TS listing info i.e. Site URL Category.. etc) and .. well.. hopefully you get the picture now. Perhaps I should have thought of this before... I put in all the content... but I did not! Ah well.. I know for next time. Question is... can I pull it out now... or come January??

Hopefully... this explains it all much more clearly! Sorry.

Thanks!
