You can switch to MySQL at any time and it should be a simple process. Please see the following for detailed info:

I had/have the same problem with the latest version.
I uncommented the DMI in all 4 files, installed it and was shown no errors...All permissions are right...Everything works great, except when I went to build a search index.
Next thing I got was an 'can't write to Mysql' error telling me that I may not have write permissions (called host, have all permissions...DBI components are installed, etc.) or permissions were wrong on the data directory/files (all 777), rechecked setup.cgi Mysql data...Still got the same error.
Host was at wits end, couldn't figure out the problem...All this just testing to see if I wanted to buy it...Was a 8 hour deal & still couldn't get Mysql to work...tried it w/out & it works fine...I don't know what I'm going to do.
PS> FocalMedia Team, you might want to follow that link and click the first link on the page for the latest version, it appears to be broken....Just an FYI

If you can provide me with some info on what the host had to say, I might be able to provide you with more info.
I have done many mysql installations in the past and probably 50% of the time it is an incorrect database name, user name or password.
Some other problems are also that the DBI modules are not propperly installed.
The MySQL grant or access tables can some times also be tricky to set up which may be the cause of access problems.
Instead of 'use DBI;' in the first line of the 4 scripts that you had to edit, some hosts will want something different like 'use DBI qw(somestuff); - but most hosts will usually have docs explaining how to 'use' DBI clearly.
