Hi,
Can anyone tell me whether it is illegal to import or enter data into a trade directory e.g. busniess names, adresses and Tel numbers and postcode (e.g. from a phone book or other source) without obtaining permission form each individual business. This is for the UK and I am wondering whether there is any infringement of Data protection etc.

Not sure what your local laws are regarding this, but you do have the option of using the yellow 'Add Link' button from your category to add a listing and choose the last option when submitting it that reads Add Listing & Send Email'. This way, the site owner is aware of the entry and can later choose to have it removed if he wants to.
Just be sure that the 'Link Inclusion Email' contains something that states they have the option to notify you if they wish it removed..
An example might read:
We would like to inform you that we have included your link in our Directory.
The link details we added is as follows:
Title: !!title_without_link!!
Description: !!description!!
URL: !!url!!
Category: !!category!!
Date Added: !!date!!
Owner Name: !!name!!
Email: !!email!!
We encourage you to check your listing, and make whatever modifications you deem necessary, or to notify us if you want the listing removed.. To modify your listing, simply click this link:
!!modify_url!! and enter this password: !!mpassword!!
