New Features/Enhancements/Updates in PowerSeek Ver 5.0 (31 May 2010)
Extra Add URL/Modify forms are now supported. This means that a single
installation of PowerSeek can accept different kinds of submissions. A
Directory can for example consist of Links, Articles, and Classifieds.
In this instance two additional Add URL/Modify form sets can be created
so that different forms are used when submitting Articles and
Classifieds. See the Manual for complete instructions on setting this
up.
Main features of this new option includes:
The ability to send out custom email autoresponse messages depending on what form set has been used.
Each form set has it's own Add URL/Modify templates that can be
customized to suite the kind of listing being submitted.
Used
in conjunction with 'Custom Category Template Sets', many different
kinds of listings (having an original look and feel) can be contained
in a single installation of PowerSeek and submissions for the different
kinds of links can be accepted.
Each
Add URL / Modify form set can direct to different order processors so
that different prices can be charged depending on the kind of link that
is submitted. (Standard or Premium)
Many others.
Google SiteMaps are now supported. When adding or editing a category a
priority option and update frequency option can be set for the
category being edited or added. When a Google SiteMap is created the
static URLs of these categories (that have priority and update
frequency options) will be written to the Google SiteMap file.
When
editing or adding links a priority and update frequency can also be
set. Note that these settings will only have bearing on the 'link info'
or 'more info' pages of links.
Note
that the SiteMaps functionality is only supported for Static
Directories. (Not dynamic Directories) The Google SiteMap file will
contain static URLs to the generated pages where categories and links
have priority and update frequency settings.
A Google SiteMap Plugin is available where all categories and links
that has priorities and frequencies set can be viewed, searched or
edited. The intention of the plugin is to make management of Google
SiteMap priorities and frequency settings easy. (For categories and
links)
The Google SiteMap can be generated when generating HTML files or can be generated from the Google SiteMap Plugin.
Upload and Download functions are now available from the Template Editor.
Templates can be uploaded and downloaded instead of copying the source
code of the templates to a Web Editor for editing.
Category Searches can now use Custom Search Templates. This allows the
ability to configure a totally original category search. This can
come in handy if the Directory holds different kinds of content like
links and articles where you would like a seperate search for links and
articles for example. Category searches can be set up in the Control
Panel >> Settings>> Create/Configure Advanced Searches
When in the 'Dir Manager' and moving the mouse over a crosslinked
category will reveal the real category where the crosslinked
category points to.
The aesthetics of the main interface / control panel has been updated
to make the use of many functions and options easier. This was mainly
implemented to make the interface look cleaner and not bulky as this
may confuse users not familiar with PowerSeek.
The Wizards as listed below has been added. They can be accessed from
the PowerSeek Control Panel >> Other Wizards - The Wizards
contains instructions and links to guide you to accomplish many tasks

templates available for editing when the 'Template Manager' tab is clicked.
When adding extra fields/keys there is now an 'implementation' link
available for each extra field that has been created. This will explain
and guide you on how to display the contents of the extra fields with
link listings and how to let visitors submit to the extra fields from
'Add URL' forms. This has been created to make it easier to implement
extra fields within PowerSeek with easy access to implementation
instructions.
A file menu is now available with the Control Panel on the left. This
has been added for quick access to functions and options.
A dropdown menu navigation plugin is now available. This plugin allows
you to display categories in a drop down menu. When categories are
selected in the drop down menus, then sub menus are populated with sub
categories of the particular category. This plugin provides the
means for your visitors to easy locate categories without loading
complete web pages. (It has been created to provide a quick and
easy way to browse to categories) - Drop Down menus can also be setup
to display the sub categories of specifically chosen categories. You
can place this functionality inside any PowerSeek template or this can
also be placed inside any external web page on your web site.
A new Text/HTML rotator plugin is now included. This allows you to
rotate Text/HTML based advertisements in any PowerSeek templates or
external Web Pages. It also allows you to target Text/HTML adverts or
content at specific categories. (Works the same way as targeting
banners at categories.)

time periods. It can be set to randomize every 6 hours, every day,
every week, etc.
Character fields can now accept pre-appended or appended data. This
means that if the extra character field has a value (when displayed
with link listings) that text or HTML can be included before the extra
field value and/or after it. Pre appended or appended text or HTML
can be added by editing any extra Character field when going to the
Control Panel >> Settings >> Extra Fields/Keys This can

there is a value for an extra field but nothing needs to be displayed
if there is no value for the extra field.

This can be done by going to the Control Panel>> Settings

When a new installation of PowerSeek is done then the Setup script now
has an additional option to configure the email address and name
from whom email responses are sent by PowerSeek. When an email address
and name is specified then all custom emails (sent out by PowerSeek)
will automatically be configured so that email is sent from the email
and name specified. This eliminates the need to
go to the Control Panel >> Settings >> Customize Emails - to
configure each email for new installations. It may be recommended
that emails still be customized according to user needs.
A tooltip window is now available from the Template Manager describing
what each template does. This should ease template editing by knowing
what it does before opening it for editing.
In some situations links will not be available in the database but the
generated HTML files for the links will still be available. This
normally happens when a link was deleted and the HTML files was not
re-generated or updated. When this happens users are provided with an
error when a link is clicked. There is now a new setting where a URL
can be supplied to redirect to, where users can be told that the link
is not available in the database anymore. This URL can be a standard
web page. This setting can be found in the Control Panel >>
Settings >> Global Engine Settings>> 1. General Settings

In some rare circumstances certain extra field names would clash
with internal field names used by PowerSeek internally. This bug has
been fixed.

displayed when setting up a category search from the Control Panel
